Scarzello
SCARZELLO GIORGIO E FIGLI, Barolo
Run by husband-and-wife team, Federico and Federica, Scarzello is a small, family-run winery in the hills of Barolo. The estate comprises several parcels of vines spanning Barolo, Alba and Sinio with around half of the family’s six hectares located in the iconic Samarssa cru.
For the last 100 years or so the Scarzello family been involved in the cultivation of grapes and the tending of vineyards. Since 2000, Federico has been directly involved with attention primarily focused on the protection of the soils and the vines, through the adoption of biological treatments. In spring 2020, Federico tentatively began to explore biodynamics, with curiosity he tried out various preparations and practices – this is an experiment which is ongoing.
