Marina’s Wine
MARINA’S WINE, Kakheti
Marina Kurtanidze had been helping her husband Iago Bitarishvili (Iago’s Wine) in their cellar in the village of Chardhaki in Kartli in central Georgia. Her first wine was made with her friend, Tea, and was indeed the first wine to be made a woman to be commercialised in Georgia. Since then, she has made in every vintage from the native Msvane grape, always in the traditional style of extended maceration on grape skins and stems in terracotta pots called Qvevri which are buried in the floor of the cellar.
