Domaine de la Tour du Bon

DOMAINE D LA TOUR DU BON

The Domaine de la Tour du Bon is located in « Le Castellet », a village between Marseille and Toulon. 10km away from the Mediterranean sea, on a clay-limestone plateau, surrounded by pine trees.  Family owned since 1968, at first considered as a holiday spot, the domain has always been taken care of with a special attention to the environment. It has grown in size progressively to attain 15 hectares of vines, leaving to wild nature a full space : hills, woods, garrigue.  Their aim is for the vines to grow with the same pleasure as the family have living there.  They have always abided by AOC Bandol requirements (no irrigation, green harvesting, limited yield to 40hL/ha, hand harvest, …) to ensure a durability for the vines, and a quality for the wines.  The relatively small size of the estate allows the same team to take care of both the vines and the cellar, keeping the same philosophy from start to finish.  Historically, the domain has always produced red, rosé and white Bandol wines. The rosé and red wines are mainly made from Mourvèdre. Trying to keep freshness and fruits, they seek the right equilibrium between strength, tannins, acidity and aromas.  In addition since 1999, when the vintage has allowed, they have also had some fun making sweet wines from Vermentino or Grenache Noir.  And in 2013, they began their journey with amphora: “100% mourvèdre macerated in 4hL claypots surprised us : mourvèdre, returning to earth – with no wood contact, expressed itself very differently than what everyone was used to.”  They started with « En Sol » in IGP Méditerranée but have kept on having fun, creating small cuvées to explore the surprising Mourvèdre world!
