Giving up their jobs in London to take over winemaker Michael’s family winery in Franconia, 2Naturkinder was born. Starting out with just a few hundred bottles, the winery converted to organic farming back in the 90s whilst managed by Michael’s father. 2Naturkinder has grown rapidly since then. With the old business of buying grapes for conventional wine in decline they now farm about six hectares of vineyards organically themselves. Their main grape variety is Silvaner which they ferment on the skins and age in old oak. In their own words, “we’ve put a lot of effort in the soil which we understand to be a living being with desires and aversions. We aim to produce lively and energetic wines which come from a healthy soil and benefit from the diversity.”
