Born into a winemaking family in eastern Kamptal, Austria, and with extensive winery experience in New Zealand, Germany and South Africa, the young Christoph Heiss divides his time between carrying on the family winery – Weingut Heiss – and a growing focus on his own wines under the Malinga label. Using carefully chosen parcels of Weingut Heiss’ 12 hectares of vines, Christoph has developed a very small production of stunning natural wines, which brim with energy and personality. Organically farmed grapes are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented and gently aged in the family’s underground cellar, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered with low sulphite additions.
