Clai’s winery lies in Krasica village in Istria, 40 km across the Croatian border from Trieste. It is a family business encompassing 8 hectares of vineyards and 3 hectares of olive trees. Giorgio’s wine growing approach respects nature and is based on family traditions. The geographic and climate situation is particularly propitious. The soil is white Istrian clay that lies on a permeable limestone and dolomite bedrock. The vineyards cooled by the air from the Ucka mountain and from the sea breeze that goes up the river Mirna. Clai’s principal goal is to enhance the terroir. In his cellar, the wines are made predominantly from native grapes of Malvasia, Refosco, Plavina and Muskat.
