Castagna

CASTAGNA, JULIAN CASTAGNA, Beechworth – Biodynamic

The Castagna Vineyard is situated at an altitude of 500 metres, high in the foothills of the Australian Alps. Soils mainly consists of decomposed granitic-loam with a predominance of quartz particles on a base of clay. The vineyard has been biodynamic from the very beginning, more than 22 years. The vineyard is hand-pruned and the fruit is hand-picked. The winemaking is traditional using only indigenous yeast, and that, combined with minimal interference, is the key to achieving vitality and complexity. Elevage varies between 18-20 months using only the very best, tight-grain French oak available. The aim is to make natural wines of terroir and this is achieved by working as simply as possible, creating wine which is an expression of the place where it is grown.
