The Real Wine Fair is organised by Les Caves de Pyrène along with a number of superb partners without whom The Fair would not be possible…
Les Caves de Pyrène is a wine importer, distributor and agent founded in 1988. Initially it was four people, a battered van and a small handful of wines from South West France. Now Les Caves employs around 50 people and sells to over 1,000 restaurants, independent fine wine shops and regional retailers in the UK, exports wines abroad, has offices and sales teams in Spain and Italy respectively and is a major partner in Terroirs, Soif, and Toast.ED. Despite our growth, however, our philosophy remains the same as it did from the beginning: to source the best quality wines directly from the grower and the vineyard; that these wines should reflect where they come (the expression of terroir); that these wines should be sustainable, with low intervention and preferably organic or biodynamic; that we not only sell these wines with energy and passion but provide the service that helps our customers to connect more effectively with their customers.
A trio of friends; Belinda, Basile and Alex uncorked Wines Under the Bonnet in early 2015. Their idea was very simple: to promote the wines they love to drink. As Basile hails from the Muscadet area, it was only natural to focus on the diverse wines of the Loire. Since then, however, their vine has spread to embrace the Languedoc, Rhone, Gaillac and Bergerac with new shoots in Franconia and the Pfalz. They work with growers who operate simply and respect their natural environment.
Portuguese Story are traders and story tellers who want to give a Portuguese narrative to the world; to change people’s perceptions and to offer diversity and uniqueness. One way for people to engage with the land is through local, authentic produce. Wine can be a strong ambassador of native character and no more so than in Portugal. Their aim is to help people discover the real Portugal; to help Portugal find its true respected place in the modern world.
Created following an idea from Giuseppe Mascoli (founder of Franco Manca, Acquolina and Blacks Club) and Francesco Calì (Sommelier and wine consultant) Dogma is a wine company focused on real and authentic wine only. Dogma’s number one rule is “natural fermentation”.
Indigo Wine is an importer and agent of unique and artisanal wines from around the world. They are proud to distribute these wines to the UK’s best restaurants and independent retailers. They are best known for sourcing fresh and balanced wines from Spain, most notably from producers in lesser-known regions, who work with indigenous varieties. Over the years their portfolio has extended to include some real gems from Portugal, Austria, Italy, Australia, South Africa, Chile and beyond. They work hard to find talented growers who are committed to making real, honest and above all delicious wines. They are the true heroes of the wine world.
Born in the Italian countryside and established in the metropolis of the City of London, this is The Winemakers Club. They have been importing, selling and enjoying wine for over 15 years from regions as diverse as Hungary and Australia. During that time they have proudly supported the smaller, more diverse producers, those embracing organics and biodynamics in their vineyards and cellars. They have sought those who are challenging convention and innovating with indigenous varietals whilst maintaining standards of classic excellence.
Rawland Wines is an importer sourcing wine from a niche market with a clear mission. Proudly presenting what Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia have to offer, their winemakers produce their own wines with the least intervention possible to make it a true reflection of their origin.
Totem Wines work with growers from the undervalued parts of France and Italy and also a few who are making their voice heard within the traditional regions of wine production. Many of these are eschewing their classification and this is often where the exciting winemaking is found. Nevertheless, their wines could not be more typical, even if they are unconventional. The list is small and producer-led. Most work organically and some with the lunar calendar at hand; but all work hard in the vineyard to ensure, above all, healthy grapes, so there’s little need for more in the cellar.
Newcomer Wines is an importer and distributor that specialises in minimal intervention wines from Austria. Their growers are dedicated to making honest, terroir-driven wines from local varieties. Recently Newcomer Wines has also started working with a handful of forward thinking artisanal winemakers from the neighbouring countries of Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
