Masterclasses Announced!

Throughout The Real Wine Fair we will be holding a series of seminars & masterclasses from several guest speakers. Register ahead of time to avoid missing out! Click HERE for Sunday sessions, and HERE for Monday sessions.

Due to their popularity in previous years, spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on the day of the event.

SUNDAY, 7TH MAY

12noon – 1pm – Carla Capalbo, a food, wine and travel writer with numerous publications to her credit, Carla has worked as journalist, photographer, cookbook author, editor and stylist on both sides of the Atlantic. Carla will be talking about her various trips to Georgia to research her book into the gastronomy of an ancient, and still very vibrant, food and wine culture. Register now.

2 – 3pm – Michel TolmerMimi, Fifi, Glouglou and me

Michel Tolmer is a cartoonist and writer, designing so many of the iconic posters one may see in natural wine bars throughout the world and also creating labels for some of his favourite vignerons. He is also the creator of Mimi, Fifi and Glouglou who appeared in book form in Petit traité de degustation in 2013, and returned by popular demand in 2016 in Degustateurs de combat. Michel will be talking about the inspiration behind the obsessive trio of tasters as well as the excitement (and dangers) of the degustation aveugle (blind tasting)! Register now.

3.30 – 4.30pm – Jean-Pierre Frick – Tasting with the head, tasting with the heart.

Jean-Pierre has been working with biodynamics in Alsace for many years and makes a wide variety of compelling wines. His recently published book Du Vin, De l’Air weaves together such themes as how we taste, what is natural, what is alive, what is true and urges us to open our minds to new flavour experiences. Register now.

MONDAY, 8TH MAY

12 – 1pm – Vincent Wallard, winemaker and importer/distributor, will be talking about 4 Manos, the project he is involved with in Argentina, as well as exploring the recent revival of artisan winemaking there and in Chile. He will highlight the similarities and differences in the respective cultures of the two countries, and cover subjects such as climate change, irrigation, franc de pieds, the native País grape variety, rediscovering old terroirs and traditional techniques (tinajas, lagares, volcanic soils, wild vines…). 2 – 3pm – Chad Stock – Truth, Beauty and Wine Faults.

Chad Stock is vigneron/producer in Oregon working on various projects including Minimus Wines & Omero Wine Cellars. His Minimus range is dedicated to pure experimentation and pushing winemaking boundaries; focusing on notional wine faults such as reduction, flor, brettanomyces and VA, to create fascinating, provocative and often delicious wines. Register now.

3.30 – 4.30pm Peter Honegger of Newcomer Wines will compère an “Austrian Growers’ Masterclass”. Peter will invite four leading growers to reflect on their experiences and account for the undoubted success of artisan Austrian wines throughout the world. Register now.
